In this article, we examine the eCommerce growth trajectory of a Clothing brand that saw explosive sales increase by 4000% in just one month. Cheer is a Kolkata-based Kid's Clothing brand that Started in India in the early 2000s. The company started as a brick-and-mortar store and later launched an eCommerce website to cater to Indian customers in 2022 with the help of Seed X Ventures.
The Challenge: To increase online sales on the brand’s e-commerce site and get a better return on investment.
The Approach:
1) Optimize your site for every user action
We conducted a heat map analysis to understand how website visitors browse a site, what catches their attention, and where they get distracted. This research encouraged us to create intelligent catalogues of personalized suggestions for users. An analysis of the integrated UX journey led to improvements in user experience and higher click-through rates.
We also revised the size chart, decreasing the number of orders returned.
2) Implement practical promotional strategies.
In an attempt to not be lost in the sea of End Of Season Sales during December, we held our Sale event in January instead. We also took advantage of micro-influencers network to try on and shop their favourite products. Influencer shout-outs have proven to be one of the best ways for businesses to reach a wider audience and stimulate growth in sales. The brand was tagged in 176 stories, each one posted at strategic intervals on their social media pages: 18 posts with 13 reels.
We also performed a huge contest and giveaway activity.
3) One source of information-
One source of information such as data-driven decision-making which is preferable to collecting and storing large amounts of diverse information.
Monitoring product-level data, weekly insights, and user behaviour allowed us to build a more effective marketing structure, strategically replenish bestseller inventory, make modifications to the digital ads, and run geo-location-specific ads.
The study looked at shopping patterns, style and colour preferences, time spent on pages, and discounts at which maximum conversions were achieved—and tested A/B marketing campaigns to create maximum impact.
4) Strategize
Strategize to leverage your brand equity, so that you can beat the odds
We leveraged the existing brand equity in order to maximize the brand value. The industry average for online shopping in India is to have 90–95% ‘Cash On Delivery’ orders which increases the RTO and pushes up the operational costs, thereby reducing profit. Since the brand had already built up a loyal customer base and trust, we were able to get customers to lower their cancellation rates with some creative nudges through email campaigns.
The Result:
The data-driven approach, combined with an improved UI/UX platform and marketing strategies, brought significant uplifts to key metrics.
The brand’s conversion rate increased by 143 percent, reaching 3.5 million accounts and impressing 12.5 million Indians with its ads during the campaign period of 2 months
Improving its return policy reduced the percentage of orders that were returned from 15% to 12%, a decrease from the industry average of 35–40%.
“Cash on delivery” orders dropped from 71% of total orders to only 19%.
The biggest win was that pre-paid orders in 3 out of the top 5 cities occurred in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
The company saw its sales increase by 4000% in just 30 days.
It takes a team to accomplish great things, and we are one very strong army.
